Winner of Berlin's Golden Bear, Head On is a gritty, uncompromising contemporary love story. To escape the stringent ultra-traditional rules of her family, Sibel, an unhappy girl from a German Turkish background decides to marry an equally depressed older man for the sake of convenience. Directed by Fatih Akin, and stars Birol Unel and Sibel Kekilli.
One of Germany's most interesting film directors, Fatih Akin filmed "Gegen die Wand" as part of a trilogy about love, death and the life of immigrants caught between the traditional and modern. He is known to Melbourne film lovers with his last production "Soul Kitchen", the opening film of the German Film Festival earlier this year.
