Danke fuer ...

Danke! Vielen Dank!  Danke Schoen!  Danke Sehr!  Herzlichen Dank!  are different forms of expressing your gratitude  for something. If you'd like to point out what you are thanking for the preposition to use is fuer.

One way of remembering new phrases in a foreign language is to associate it with a song. You might know the old cartoon series Tom and Jery. It was hugely popular in Germany some 20 or 30 years ago and the title melody is very catchy. Visit the following link: Vielen Dank fuer die Blumen, vielen Dank, wie lieb von Dir... end you will remember the phrase in no time.

A phrase to show great gratitude is "Danke. Das ist wirklich sehr nett von Ihnen." (Thank you. It's really nice of you.) The answer to the thanking person is "Bitte!", "Bitte sehr!", "Bitte schoen!", "Gern geschehen!" (It's a pleasure!)

Danken (to thank) is the infinitiv verb form and goes with the Dative.

  • Ich danke Dir fuer die Blumen.
  • Du dankst mir fuer das Geschenk.
  • Er dankt der Mutter fuer die Schokolade.
  • Sie dankt dem Vater fuer den Brief.
  • Wir danken Euch fuer das Essen.
  • Ihr dankt dem Lehrer fuer den guten Schulausflug.
  • Sie danken ihren Eltern fuer die tolle Geburtstagsfeier.
