Many students are asking me with the advent of Anzac Day if  something similar exists in Germany. It does and it's called Volkstrauertag (das Volk- the people, die Trauer- the mourning, der Tag- the day). It is classified as a secular ""silent"" day, a day for remembrance and mourning.
